What's inside
- IFTA Worksheet: pick each state or province from a dropdown, enter miles and tax-paid gallons, and it calculates fleet MPG, taxable gallons, net taxable gallons, tax or credit per jurisdiction, and your net amount due. It handles the Kentucky, Virginia and Indiana (propane) surcharges and flags fuels with no IFTA rate (such as Oregon diesel, which uses a weight-mile tax). It has 60 rows and covers all 15 IFTA fuel types.
- Cost Per Mile: monthly fixed costs, fuel, maintenance, tires and pay give you an all-in cost per mile, a break-even rate per loaded mile after deadhead and factoring/dispatch fees, and a target rate. A quick load check tells you whether a load makes money.
- Rates 3Q2026: base and surcharge rates per gallon for every jurisdiction and fuel, copied from the official IFTA tax matrix (https://www.iftach.org/taxmatrix/charts/3Q2026.csv).
- Instructions: step-by-step use, how each number is calculated, and a worked example.
It calculates exactly the same way as the online IFTA calculator and cost per mile calculator. We checked the spreadsheet formulas against the site's calculation code with sample inputs. If you'd rather not use a spreadsheet, the online versions do the same thing in your browser.
Rates change every quarter
This file uses 3Q2026 rates. When the next IFTA tax matrix is published, we'll post an updated workbook on this page. You can also check current rates any time on the IFTA rates page. If you'd like a reminder, the optional email below goes out when rates change. It isn't needed for the download.
Using or sharing it
The workbook is free to use, copy and share with your drivers, clients or students. If you share or post it, please keep the FuelTaxMath credit or link to this page. If you run a blog or resource page, you can also embed the calculator itself with the free widget.
Estimate only. This is not tax, legal or financial advice. Your base jurisdiction may round differently, apply penalties or interest, or use rates that changed after the file was made. Always confirm with your base jurisdiction before filing.
